Delivery
Notifications
How Webhook Watchtower alerts you when deliveries fail permanently, and how to configure notification settings.
Watchtower notifies you when a webhook delivery fails permanently: when all retry attempts for an event have been exhausted and the event needs manual attention.
What triggers a notification
Transient failures that resolve within the retry window are handled silently. You're only notified when an event reaches a state where automatic recovery isn't possible and action is needed.
A notification is sent when:
- All retry attempts for a delivery are exhausted
- An event is permanently failed and needs manual replay
Brief outages (a deploy, a restart, a brief spike in response times) won't generate noise if your endpoint recovers before the retry window closes.
Notification channels
Email: a notification is sent to your account email address when a permanent failure occurs. The email includes the event ID, source, destination, and a direct link to the event in your dashboard.
In-app: a notification badge appears in the dashboard. The notification centre shows all recent failures with links to the affected events.
Notification preferences
Notification settings are managed per workspace in Settings → Notifications. You can adjust which events trigger notifications and which channels receive them.
Acting on a notification
When you receive a failure notification:
- Click the link in the email or notification to open the event.
- Review the delivery attempt history to understand what failed.
- Fix the underlying problem (bring the endpoint back up, fix the bug, etc.).
- Click Replay to re-queue the event.
The event is re-delivered using the same retry logic as new events.
Notification delivery itself
Notifications are sent as soon as the final retry attempt fails. Email delivery depends on your email provider. Most arrive within a minute or two. If you're not receiving emails, check your spam folder and confirm your account email address is correct in your account settings.
